Installation (Linux)

Before installing IW4x, you need to obtain a legitimate copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) from Steam.

The recommended way to install IW4x, with easy updates included!

Find Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) - Multiplayer in your Steam library, click each and select Install. Wait for the downloads to finish before you continue!

Your game folder is located in your SteamLibrary, you can find it through Steam by selecting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) in your library, right-clicking it and selecting Manage -> Browse local files.

3. Open a terminal and navigate to your Game folder

cd ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Call\ of\ Duty\ Modern\ Warfare\ 2

If you found a different Path in step 2 you have to replace it in the command above. You can auto-complete directory/file names with TAB.

or download it manually and place it in your game folder:

chmod +x iw4x-launcher
./iw4x-launcher --update

Add the iw4x.exe as a Non-Steam game in your Steam Library for best performance, you can try different Proton versions to see which works best for you.

You’ll have to run ./iw4x-launcher --update every time you want to update IW4x.
